Did you watch President Trump’s latest State of the Union Address? It’s original “live” air date was TUES FEB 19, 2019 @ 9PM (et). If you missed it pull it up on Google. You really need to watch it (at least 10/15 minutes) to see what he said to the world.

It amazes me the number of people who “proudly” announced on social media that they DID NOT nor did they have any intention of watching the speech. Really people?!?! President Trump announced his agenda; you don’t think it’s important to hear about policies he’s championing that will affect all of us for the next 10 to 20 years? Folks you gotta pay attention to what politicians are planning & saying; perhaps put a stop to it before they really make “life” a living hell (so to speak). It’s usually to late to react once the train starts pulling out of the depot too. In these days and times it would behoove all of us to “stay in the know”.

While I think the message was good (at least I know his plans; what he’s thinking). I was somewhat disappointed in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-California) numerous, animated facial expressions; body language. Did you see her “clap back” on President Trump’s comments? C’mon Nancy! You’re the Speaker of the House. Surely you knew the cameras would catch every one of your reactions. Does the world really need to see that kind of behavior from you? I don’t think so. My parents taught my siblings and me “what goes on in this house STAYS in this house”. To be at odds with a person is acceptable. We’ll never always agree but to allow your emotions be exposed before the world was unacceptable. That’s certainly not becoming for one of the most powerful ladies on the planet either.

Furthermore, like it or not Donald J. Trump is the President of the United States at least until 2020. What he does IS going to affect us all. Actually, I think it’s going to be impossible to get him out of office if the American economy stays strong. Bump all the investigations swirling around his administration; the Southern U. S. Border wall project. In case you didn’t know we’ve pretty much recovered from the 2008 recession that by the way was TEN years ago. A good indication of that is interest rates on all business and personal loans are moderate and steady. Consumers are spending money again on everything from A-Z and investing in the American stock market. That’s a BIG plus for President Trump. Typically, it’s next to impossible to unseat the incumbent President IF people are confident about money; they’re spending it. Like it or not that’s the truth.

So before you find yourself on the “short end of the stick” AGAIN I advise you to pull up the speech and hear it for yourself. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to be “in the know”. #KNOWLEDGE is still power and in this case I’d rather know and be prepared to take cover if necessary.

On another note, some candidates have already announced they’re running for President. Gee whiz! Well over a year away and they’re already vying for attention. Do you have any idea who’s planning to run for President in 2020? Wake up! Pay attention before what happened in 2016 happens again. I’m not going to tell you who to vote for but I will insist that you get to know ALL candidate beyond the surface. Don’t waste your vote believing sound bites and what you may read on the internet. Do yourself a favor and find out who these folk really are and their past voting records. However they voted in the past is a good indication of how they’d perhaps represent you if they get elected to office. A lot of unqualified candidates can be stopped before it’s to late. On the other hand if we turn a deaf ear; blind eye there’s a possibility you may find somebody in office representing you that should have never gotten elected. #IJS

Last, apparently a lot of African-Americans don’t like President Trump. OK. I get it; that’s your choice. However, he is the President of the United States until 2020 and I think everybody needs to “listen” to important speeches like the “State of the Union” to hear for yourself what the President is going to do. There’s nothing like being informed and knowledgeable…right? One of the worst things in the world is to be blindsided and you didn’t see it coming because you were ignorant and didn’t know. Pew Research Data reports a lot of African-Americans DID NOT vote in the 2016 Presidential election. Copy & paste the link into your web browser to see the data for yourself.  (http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/05/12/black-voter-turnout-fell-in-2016-even-as-a-record-number-of-americans-cast-ballots/) I’ve said it before and it bears worth repeating again. If you don’t participate in the process you don’t have a voice or right to complain. Process was a big part of the agenda with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement. We have to be a part of the process; should all be involved in politics at the national, state and most certainly the local level. Perhaps you or your church, civic or community group could organize a voter education drive to ensure (especially in our community) that people are motivated to participate in the process for the next Presidential election.  If we don’t participate then it’s safe to assume it’ll be the same results as the last time; the African-American community being disappointed in the outcome of another election. SMH! Will we ever learn? Anybody?
